Full time / Part time artist

Was thinking about this notion of full time / part time artist.

I don't believe in this categorization. But was thinking more what this term implies.

basically, in this way of looking - the person perceives the artist making work a profession.

It just sounds silly - because it implies this person works as an artist as a profession - so what does this mean and when did this concept of the artist come about?

If we were to take this equation - what is an artist's work? Making art - and what is the artist's artwork and when is he/she not working.

i.e. when the artist is not working (making art) - he/she is not full time.

This means almost everything - right?

I also discussed this with jennifer - and money was another equation in this thought. If we think of money as a measure - this also means that the artist makes his money from his art.

Unless teaching is the artist's art, etc, then most artists including those teaching full time in schools are not full-time artists.

I am interpreting this idea of full-time artist as someone who is serious about making art.

AS you can see from my sleepy writing now, this idea is silly and instead - we should look at artworks and artistic practice on their own merit. Not the fact that the full-time / part-time thing.

ok, enuff for the day. I am so sleepy. Gtg.

Think more about this again.
