The Singapore biennale 1st potluck session happened at post-museum's backroom. It's first public event since Mathew Ngui became the director.
Somehow, I expected (not just me) people not to bring food to share. So as it turned out only a handful people brought food to share out of about 30 attendees.
I know Mathew personally , have always admired his work and love his energy. I feel the gesture of creating a potluck is to invite everyone in the art community to bring and share. The act of participation is something which I believe he wants. It is an event marking the different approach between the previous biennale.
In total I think there is about 40-45 people who came including the biennale organizers. I got a bit disappointed that not even 1/3 went to attend the artist talk or even visit the exhibition.
If they say curiosity killed the cat. No cats got killed on this day.
