A dream of principality

"before I forget, dreamt that Jen and me went in search of a principality - somewhere in germany.

Skateboard, dancing japanese storks, weird american tourists. Sleep. And a song, I was humming few minutes after I woke. Funny dream." - Facebook Status update,
Wednesday at 04:43, 4th September.

It probably started with listening to the news on BBC on the new principality

Italian town Filettino declares independence.

Reacting to the Italian Central government move to merge Filettino with another town in light to the Eurozone crisis, the mayor instead of losing his job came up with a brilliant idea. He declared Filettino independent. He then created his own currency and coat of arms. The currency is being used and this brought Filettino to world wide fame.

So, the bedside discussion with Jen probably made me have this strange dream.

Anyway, Filettino reminded my fascination with micronations like Sealand, the smallest country in the world. And my own personal joke about Singapore - which town in Singapore can actually declare independence? Toa Payoh? Ang Mo Kio? Or is it a East and West / North and South Divide. If so, where would you prefer to stay. Of course, Singapore is small but I always felt that there is significant differences between East and West in Singapore. So, I always felt satisfied to find something which would provide evidence for this theory.

Given the current news and headlines by PM Lee Hsien Loong and other PAP MPs - that points out that the current political climate is dividing Singaporeans. Singapore divided will hinder progress as claimed by Lee and the PAP MPs, This is political rhetoric and there is no such thing as a united Singapore. Instead of embracing diversity of views, it seems that the government is interested in 'unity'.
