Xinyao docu

The songs we sang... a documentary on Xin yao music by Eva Tang. A music movement in Singapore.

I always thought of xinyao as a folk music moment and a creative response to culture that is top down (government-led).

Some new additional knowledge i gained from the documentary. Xinyao movement was a result of the displaced generation of students due to the reformed education policies which removed chinese education. This created a whole gen of frustrated students who felt lost and marginalised. The other factor was the rise and popularity of Taiwan folk music movement.
Overall, great documentary by Eva. It is a very moving to watch this and see the people and their passion.

I started to wonder about the Malay and Tamil medium schools and how a generation of them would also be displaced because of the education policy. What is their story.
