Derrick Lim's birthday gathering at 8 Treasures Restaurant in Chinatown. 

Derrick is an old friend I met during Rowell days. Since then, he has been involved in many Post-Museum Project. Through him, we met and made friends from different circles. 

This gathering took place bit before Bamboo Broadcast Studio. Derrick was also co-curator for Bamboo Broadcast Studio. 

Always nice to meet friends and catch up.

Finally, getting to look through the year's photos on my phone. Given my super busy schedule, I didn't really process much for the archive this year as the year is ending, and I am taking some holidays. I found time to do this while preparing for SAW IN 10 DAYS.

Adventures in #citation

Going to use #Zotero from today onwards until we meet again, so goodbye Endnote.

This led me to find some treasures - archive treasures that have been embedded in my 10-year Endnote bibliography. 

Here are the tips to exporting your bibliography from Endnote to Zotero.

Do note that this process is done with the Endnote Program. So do not uninstall your Endnote Program yet. 

1. Start your Endnote Program
2. Select your entries you wish to export in your database citations. 
3. Click Export, as Refman - .ris extension.
4. Save file. 
5. Start Zotero and import the .ris file.

I will share this treasure that is embedded in my bibliography. J wrote about the early fundraising exhibition by Chua Koon Beng, and there is a reference to the Substation. 

"This Saturday, J and I went down to a small fundraising show at the Post-Museum where artist Chua Koon Beng showed 18 charcoal sketches of the different people who have contributed to or interacted with the project - construction workers, a designer, a baker, an artist, the owner of the shophouses, the foreman...

We have always enjoyed the projects curated by p-10 that we have managed to see, such as this or that. But what I've always enjoyed and admired is that not only do these folks really do make things happen, they've kept their hearts and heads in the right places, and they are open about it.

J tells me, for instance, how he likes the fact that among the objectives listed on their simple A4 photocopied introduction, one bullet point reads "Making improvements to our lives and the world we live in". Another 2 bullet points read "Reponding to our location and engaging the community in it" and "Making greater connection between the arts and the society at large". When we spoke to JE, one of the p-10 team, about their location at Rowell Rd, she had said matter-a-factly that they hoped to also bring a new and different energy and life to the street as the space evolved."

I want to thank J & Y for their thoughts and well-wishes - not for what I do but for the community. You have been amazing. J & Y

Nxt day is the ONE NIGHT ONLY where the participants of my Welcome to the Jungle Workshop - present their work.

With that over, it is the period for exam. We will be leaving for Taiwan 19nov, back on the 2nd nov.

Then back again to Tainan... in a week to prepare for the Lessons Amongst Trees installation.

Browsed through On Kawara's phaidon book. Within the book were some works which I have never seen. It was an enjoyable read actually. I would recommend it. Of course he is more than DATE Paintings. Basically, he is a busy man - going about his routines.

He makes me think that I am not defragmenting enough.

Here goes:

30 Jan - attended the 'old left' CNY luncheon. A time to reflect on the history of the detained. After which, we had coffee and spoke with an ex-detainee where she shared on the need to use a more complex lens to look at the past.

Finished Rehearsal in January and started working on the documentation.

Working out a new essay about the Post-Popup project for a NTU CCA publication and making some additions to the documentation of Post-Museum's work between 2016-2017.

Jen and me went to Substation's opening of the Co-Op. Caught up with some friends.

Been re-using for the wood from Survey for wood working projects. Having more fun than I expected. Building shelves and planter boxes so far.

A talk in Melbourne and conference on fri - then mod

A talk in Melbourne this Wednesday. I am not going there but doing it via skype or something like that. ISn't internet nice and thinking we should do these cross-border dialogue like these. Less carbon footprints right.

Then moderating the post-screening discussion this Sunday at Freedom Film Fest.

All these while writing a new 13 week Southeast Asia contemporary art course at ADM for next year. It is a very fun course to work on and builds on this new body of research work to think through narrative of SE Asia Contemporary art. A great opportunity to read through or rather to read more in depth some of these 'key' texts, 'flash points', entry points in the story of art in this region.

Shwedagon Pagoda and my diy comfort food

Shwedagon Pagoda also known as the Great Dagon Pagoda and the Golden Pagoda, is a gilded stupa located in Yangon, Myanmar. The pagoda is a dominant part of the Yangon skyline.

There is a picture of my 'curated' porridge which is the kind of comfort food I love to have in the beginning of the day. Why isn't there a restaurant which do this style of comfort food with lots of veg options? Perhaps, we should have a porridge party at the Substation residency.

HOY Hot day!

Spent the day cleaning the kitchen floor area of p-10 and packing the stuff in that area.

Amidst that, had lunch with jen and lisa. Observed John's movers storming the place really efficiently.

Amazing.

Now that it's 4:52pm // I am just wrapping up the cleaning.
